The Late Vd. P.G. Nanal Department of Ayurveda & Yoga is a part of Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth since Vidyapeeth’s inception in the year 1921. The objective of the department is 'Ayurveda for all'. Each and every activity of the department is linked with the purpose of preservation and propagation of ancient Indian culture and sciences like Ayurveda, Yoga and Indian Dietetics. The working of the department revolves around three prime components; viz. Ayurvedic treatments, education and research.
Since the pre-independence era, i.e. the inception of the Vidyapeeth, the Department runs various programs. The department has re-oriented itself to cater the changing needs of the students and the society.
India is the land of Yoga. One of the greatest contributions of Indian Culture to the world community is the philosophy of Yoga and its scientific practice to enhance the quality of life. Yoga gives empowerment to face the life with calm mind and positive attitude which is the greatest need of the present time. With this view in mind, the department designed two year Masters program in Yoga (M.A. Yoga) which is the most sought after and favorite program of the students.
Indian food is considered as one of the wholesome foods in the world. The traditional Indian food is not only healthy, but is also incredibly tasty with a lot of health benefits. Indian diet is not only scientific but sustainable. The only need is for awareness. On this background, the department is a pioneer to design and implement the Masters program in Nutrition and Food Science (M.Sc. Nutrition & Food Science) which is a beautiful blend of traditional Indian and modern dietetics. Launched in 2011, this interdisciplinary program continues to operate with a proven track record of academic excellence.
Furthermore, the department supports high-level research through its Ph.D. program in Ayurveda, Nutrition, and Yoga, ensuring full alignment with the regulatory frameworks of both the Ministry of AYUSH and UGC.
The department has successfully executed more than ten national and international research projects, supported by esteemed funding bodies such as the CCRAS, Ministry of AYUSH, Yoga Samskrutham University (USA), Research and Development Centre (Thailand), etc. Our core mission involves the continuous scientific evaluation of ancient Ayurvedic manuscripts alongside modern medical doctrines. Through these outcome-based initiatives, the department has solidified its reputation as a leader in evidence-based traditional medicine research.
